The Staff Manufacturing Engineer for Beckman Coulter
Microbiology is responsible for developing and implementing
equipment and manufacturing process improvements to achieve plant
objectives for safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity and
customer satisfaction within an FDA regulated environment. This
person will apply engineering knowledge and skills in a world-class
organization with a diverse group of backgrounds in engineering,
sciences and reagent manufacturing.
This position will be located in Sacramento, CA, as an integral
part of the Manufacturing Engineering Department.
In this role, you will have the following opportunities, but are
not limited to:
- Evaluate existing processes and equipment for safety,
consistent product quality and cost-effectiveness. Maximize
efficiency through Lean concepts: analyzing layout of equipment,
workflow, assembly methods, material handling and work force
- Plan, manage and control the procurement of capital equipment,
materials and services. Ensure the equipment and/or services are
delivered on time, on budget, and meet all standards/specifications
to ensure program success.
- Develop programs and/or methods to optimize work in process
material, reduce cycle time, limit manufacturing losses and improve
- Identify manufacturing capability and capacity and provide
guidance to facilitate production processes in accordance with
- Create process documentation, including validations, assembly
drawings, work instructions, bill of materials (BOM) and routings.
Conduct Process Failure Modes Effect Analysis (pFMEAs) and develop
and implement countermeasures to reduce risk (e.g. control
- Determine, document and validate the proper equipment, tooling
and test apparatus. Includes designing, creating drawings and bills
- Survey and identify replacement components for reliability, for
reasons of obsolescence or cost reduction. Identify and contact
vendors. Compare technical specifications. Compile and prepare
required documentation according to change control procedures.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial
Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 9+ years'
experience OR Master's degree in field with 7+ years' experience OR
Doctoral degree in field with 4+ years' experience
- Must have experience with regulated environment; strong
experience in organizing, prioritizing, planning, and executing
multiple significant-scale projects from definition through
implementation involving internal personnel and third-party
- Must have experience in Pharmaceutical or Medical Device
It would be a plus if you also possess:
- Experience in reagents/consumables manufacturing, such as
filling and packaging processes of finished products.
- Understanding of Danaher Business System/Lean/Kaizen/Value
Stream Mapping/Design Change/ Visual Project Management.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks or Inventor
