Overview

Seneca's James Baldwin Academy is a non-public school serving students in grades 6-12 to personalize our treatment approach for each student and promote the social, emotional, behavioral and intellectual development of each student. The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Program Director in the development, implementation, and day to day operation of the program, which includes the therapeutic milieu, educational services, and therapy with children and their families. The Assistant Director works to develop and maintain close collaboration with partner school districts and other community based organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the program is run in a safe, therapeutic and efficient manner
  • Facilitate effective integration of educational, clinical, and milieu program components
  • Oversee the delivery of high quality services through all phases of treatment: intake, assessment, treatment planning, intervention, discharge
  • Identify areas for improvement in the program and take initiative to make needed changes
  • Plan school events i.e., conference days, assemblies, end of the year programs, field trips, etc.
  • Provide leadership for staff in creating a positive work environment
  • Develop cooperative, effective and functional teams
  • Perform the following personnel functions: interviewing, hiring, supervision, evaluation, disciplinary action, and professional development
  • Coordinate and participate in meetings and trainings for program personnel
  • Ensure adequate supervision of staff is provided in a supportive, constructive manner
  • Participate in administrative meetings
  • Coordinate and conduct program intakes
  • Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings
  • Ensure timely and effective documentation
  • Write effective proposals, reports, and policies
  • Ensure a highly engaging and collaborative approach to working with students and families
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with partner agencies and school districts
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Valid California driver's license, clean record, and insurability under Seneca's automobile policy
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Strong awareness of how issues of power, privilege, culture, identity, and intersectionality affect the experience of students, families, staff, and the functioning of the school and the systems in which it operates.
  • Experience working with high needs students and their families
  • Familiarity with milieu work, including trauma informed care, crisis intervention, behavior modification theory and techniques
  • Knowledge of the provider system, including school districts, Mental Health and Social Services
  • Proven leadership ability in a school or milieu-based program
  • Demonstrated ability to write professional reports.
