looking for a SENIOR ENGINEER t o join our Downstream
Processing Development group in San Leandro,
We are seeking an experienced downstream Process
Engineer to successfully scale processes from the bench through
pilot plant and into CMOs.
Key Responsibilities: Lead process development for DSP
operations such as centrifugation, membrane filtration, depth
filtration, adsorption, evaporation, liquid formulation and
Lead process development DSP operations projects of varying
Design, plan, execute and analyze scalable process experiments
in laboratory and pilot plant
Provide input and analysis to process design, establish
scale-up/scale-down parameters using engineering fundamentals
(mixing, mass transfer, heat transfer, modeling, etc.) and
cooperatively work with the teams to develop and optimize process
control strategies for fermentation and DSP.
Collaboration with process associates, fermentation, DSP, and
Lead drafting of SOPs for equipment operation, process steps,
sanitization SOP and Preventive Maintenance plans as well as
Conduct training of process team.
Lead development of technology transfer package to internal and
external CMO/CRO facilities
Work closely with CMO partners to execute process successfully
and reproducibly, while ensuring the process meets Quality specs,
customer timelines and is accompanied by training of personnel.
Support process technology transfer to guarantee accuracy,
conformity and competitiveness of the process and techniques
Preparation and presentation of technical reports, data
summaries, protocols and other technical and regulatory
documentation, as needed.
Mentor and provide technical guidance for junior engineers and
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical
Engineering preferred) or Life Sciences with 7+?years experience or
Master’s degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred) or
Life Sciences with 5+?years' experience
Strong experience with spray drying R&D and process
Prior food GMP experience in a food biotech a plus.
Prior experience with production scale biotech process equipment
Prior experience with automation engineering is a plus.
Good at trouble shooting and problem solving.
Domestic and international travel at various times during
projects. Travel is intermittent and varies by stage of
