Reporting to the Senior HR Manager of Employee Relations and working with various operations managers, departments and field personnel, the Senior Human Resources Business Partner position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in Corovan. This position serves as a consultant to managers on human resource-related issues as well as an employee champion and coach. The Senior Human Resources Business Partner teams statewide with other business partners, under the direction of the Senior Manager of Employee Relations, to assess and anticipate HR-related needs, build effective relationships with managers and employees at each site, and communicate the needs proactively with managers and internal HR colleagues. This person leads the implementation of HR company policies and programs at their sites.

The Senior Human Resources Business Partner is also in charge of identifying future hiring needs, helps revise or update job descriptions, and conducts some interviewing and onboarding for key positions. This person also implements HR Policies and Programs for the local branch, in alignment with program goals, collaborating cross-functionally to build and refine internal partnerships.

As well, the HR Business Partner attends monthly business reviews in Northern California to better understand the business needs of the transportation, warehouse, tech and sales divisions. This HR Business Partner also travels to the Richmond branch to meet with employees and handle special situations. Occasional travel to Southern California locations for training and statewide HR team meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Senior Human Resources Business Partner:
  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations to local business team.
  • Learns the business plans and growth strategies.
  • Meets regularly with employees, analyzes data, and makes recommendations to the managers to plan corrective action and continuous improvement of management practices.
  • Responds to employee relations issues such as policy violations, employee complaints, harassment allegations, conducting investigations when necessary and collaborating with HR Leader to decide best course of action, including disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Provide coaching on Performance Management, including reviewing performance reviews and creating and delivering performance improvement plans.
  • Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to managers and employees.
  • Coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Facilitate department objectives and projects as needed. These may include COVID Tracing and open enrollment projects.
  • Works with managers to create and update job descriptions.
  • Works closely with corporate HR and management team to ensure effective completion of security clearances.
  • Builds solid relationships with internal team members and stakeholders.
  • Becomes proficient at managing HR transactions through HRIS portal and teaches managers and employees on how to do the same.
  • Manages HR Program rollout and benefit rollout the sites. Plans communication meetings, follows up to ensure that all employees understand any changes /offerings.
  • Complies with all governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements and advises managers of California and Federal laws.
  • Recruiting:
  • Identifies creative ways to attract candidates to open positions.
  • Works with hiring managers to understand job requirements.
  • Writes or rewrites job descriptions as business divisions need
  • Assists with interviewing, offers and onboarding as needed. Reviews candidates for supervisory positions with hiring manager and provides insight about candidate's profile, job needs, etc.
  • Ensures that promotional opportunities are posted and employees apply through Career Mobility process, to allow others to fairly apply.
  • Training/Communication with managers and employees:
  • Facilitates and/or provides trainings to employees and managers including new policies and procedures and new hire orientations.
  • Teams with Management to deliver training meetings.
  • Seeks to improve communication between managers and employees at meetings, through informal discussions with employees, and makes suggestions to operations and HR team about improvements that could be made to increase communication and understanding.
  • Build plan to rollout HR Programs or policy changes at the branch, including communication, checking in on understanding and building new skills.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Spanish speaking and writing capability (required)
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and State Employment law, including wage and hour.
  • Ability to balance employee perspective and employer perspective and build understanding and trust between all parties.
  • Ability to document investigations thoroughly and make recommendations on next steps.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree or pursuing degree with equivalent education and experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a similar Human Resource Business Partner role, previous Transportation & Warehouse industry preferred.
  • Experience handling investigations and terminations.
  • Strong PC skills required. Must be proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with an HRIS system, including updating employee information within an HRIS, Ultipro HRIS preferred.
  • Must have excellent organization skills, attention to details, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, partner well.
  • Project Management and tracking skills.
  • A valid state driver's license and meet the requirements of the Driving Policy on Use of Employee's Personal Vehicle for Company Business Policy.
  • Experience implementing HR policies in California for hourly workforce.

    PRIMARY LOCATION:

    San Leandro, California and Richmond, California (occasionally)

    TRAVEL REQUIRED:

    Occasional travel to Richmond or San Jose locations to handle employee relations and training. Occasional travel to Southern California for training and company-wide team meetings.
