OpportunityZymoChem is seeking an Associate Director / Director of
Material Development to immediately join and contribute to the
company's R&D for the manufacturing of high-performance
products. This position will lead the team focused on bench-scale
development, characterization and scale-up for production of
initially our polymeric materials, expanding into other
biomaterials in the near future. The role will coordinate with CMOs
and other organizations to oversee pilot-level scale-up endeavors
as well as all outsourced efforts. -Responsibilities
Manage, mentor, and train employees
to drive success for polymeric material research and engineering
teamProvide technical guidance for development of chemistries and
processing methods for the production of polymeric materials at
bench-level and for scale-up effortsLead development of other
biomaterials as the material portfolio of the company
growsRoutinely partner with the company's other R&D groups,
bioprocess development, product development and analytical teams,
company management, and external collaborators -Work with project
management partners to manage functionally integrated project
timelines, work plans, interdependencies, and budgetsWork to
establish integrated workflows and solutions, build out the
company's core competencies by introducing new technologies,
identify technology bottlenecks plus drive for their resolution,
and expand the company's IP strategy by adding to its IP
portfolioSummarize complex technical information from different
technical groups into more simplified communicationsManage project
milestones, KPIs, and align status of upcoming deadlines with
company management & external parties needs and
expectationsCoordinate with external vendors, CMOs and
collaborating organizations to oversee the execution of process
scale-up campaigns and manufacturing effortsQualifications -
PhD in polymer science, chemistry,
chemical engineering, materials science, or a related disciplineA
minimum of 10 years industry research experience, including at
least 5 years managing scientists and research associatesExperience
in independently managing teams and projects, with a comprehensive
understanding of the various stages of R&D and scale-up, and
their unique needs is preferred -Expertise in polymer chemistry as
well as in the production & processing of polymeric materials is
essential, experience leading scale-up of polymer processing is
highly desirable -Previous experiences with surface
functionalization and/or modification of polymeric materials is
highly desirableDirect work with and exposure to bio-based polymers
and/or water-soluble polymers; experience with microbial production
of polymers is a plusBroad knowledge base of the state of the art
and relevant IP landscape -Adaptable, self-motivated and curious,
excited to build teams and infrastructure in a fast-growing
