Job Description:
The Battery Engineer will play a crucial role in the assembly,
testing, and analysis of water-based organic flow battery
technology. This position serves a key role in the development,
construction, testing, and implementation of flow battery
prototypes and field trials for the government and other customers.
This is a full-time, direct-hire role located in San Leandro,
CA.
Key Responsibilities:
Work independently or collaborate with other battery engineers in
designing, constructing, operating, and disassembling flow battery
prototypes at lab-, pilot-scale and beyond
Analyze the performance of flow batteries at various scales using
electrochemical techniques including cell cycling, Cyclic
Voltammetry, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, and other
relevant techniques
Design and perform experiments to study factors that affect the
performance of flow-battery components such as porous electrodes,
membranes, etc. and provide solutions forimprovement.
Balance competing resources and cross-functional objectives in a
fast-pacedenvironment.
Prepare and present progress reports to the rest of the team and
engage in discussions to support the team's
technicalobjectives.
Train, guide and define tasks for technicians and/or interns to
facilitate work at highstandards.
Assist in setting up laboratory equipment, such as battery testers,
glove boxes, furnaces, etc.
Compile and analyze data in an easily understood format to support
theteam.
Thoroughly document experimental procedures and collecteddata.
Communicate technical and non-technical information clearly
andeffectively.
Maintain high quality of work while performing manual,
repetitivetasks.
Work collaboratively and flexibly in a small team
Comply with all EH&S/safety requirements and contribute to a
culture ofsafety.
Perform other duties asassigned.
Requirements:
Being passionate and knowledgeable about clean energy, batteries,
or related fields, sciences, and technologies
MS or PhD in an engineering major such as Chemical Engineering,
Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or in Chemistry.
3-5 years of hands-on (or a combination of modeling and hands-on)
experience in working with electrochemical systems such as flow
batteries, fuel-cells, Li-Ion batteries, or so on (grad-school
research experience is accepted if relevant).
Ability to execute multiple projects and
prioritiessimultaneously.
Experience of working with battery testers such as BioLogic, Arbin,
MACCOR, Neware, etc.
Familiarity with HPLC for characterizing organic compounds is a
plus
Ability to work in a team as well as independently.
Available to start sometime in June-August2023.
Possess a high level of attention to detail with handling of
samples and test data
Ability to follow documented procedures and givefeedback.
Good communication skills to report issues clearly
andeffectively.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Outlook
A broad knowledge of various best practices within the
laboratory
Reliability, clear communication, and desire to learn
Work authorization in the U.S.
Benefits and Compensation:
$125,000-155,000 in annual salary depending on experience and
qualifications, as well as additional stock options, subject to
vesting and Board approval of the options. We offer top-of-the-line

the company 401(k) plan with a company match. Relocation benefit
(taxable) is available up to $5,000. We provide unlimited snacks
